WXVU 89.1 The Dinner Party is a radio show hosted by Madeline Scolio and me, Jackie Carroll. The title is a nod to Judy Chicago’s epic feminist art installation. Our show’s goal is to amplify the voices of female music makers.
The Dinner Party is live every Monday from 7:00 to 8:30.
Back from Break 2/22
We’re back with all the new music we fell in love with over winter break. The radio studio was closed for the first month of school because of our school’s massive spike in COVID cases, but hopefully, we’re back for the rest of the semester. We talked about Valentine’s Day, our school’s Marriage Pact results, and the drama that ensues when love is in the air.
Finals Week Mashup 11/19
Our last episode of the semester! We played whatever songs we wanted as a reward for getting through these past few months. Next semester, our show will be at a different time so keep an ear out for updates! We wish all of our beautiful listeners a happy and safe holiday season from WXVU’s The Dinner Party.
Girls Rock! 11/12
This week, we asked our parents to send us some of their favorite rock songs. Curated mainly by Madeline’s dad, this episode features hall of famers like Stevie Nicks and Madonna. Peppered with bands who are pulling rock ‘n’ roll into the 21st century, this episode features artists like Mitski, Snail Mail, and Soccer Mommy.
A Week of New Music 11/5
Just five days into the month and there is already so much new music! We played a song by HeatLoaf; an up incoming band based out of Tample University. “i’ll always love u & i’ll try” is the first single they have put out off their first full album. It’s dreamy and heartbreaking and a song that should be on everyone’s breakup playlist.
Girl Bands 10/29
There is nothing quite as empowering as an excellent girl band. From The Shirelles to BLACK PINK, these no-boys-allowed music groups are a staple of any playlist.
Voices of Influence 10/22
We wanted to pay homage to the artists that shaped our music taste for our first week on air. We chatted about growing up as a girl and searching for representation in the music and media we consumed. This episode features musicians who singlehandedly changed the American music scene like Aretha Franklin and Billie Eilish.
